When I started knitting again in August/September, I could not show anything on the blog because I was knitting for a swap. I can finally post about it now that my swappee has received her package!
I participated in the Mash Up swap at the Odd Ducks Swap group on Ravelry. This group usually has awesome swap themes, and I have participated a couple of times before. The idea of this swap was mashing up fandoms. Every swapper could state a top five of fandoms, and their swap partner would then choose two fandoms to mash up completely. Very inspiring! You were required to include at least two handmades.
I received my own swap package just after returning from my holiday. It was a mash up of mainly Dr Who and Sherlock, with a touch of South Park and Star Trek. It contained some great stuff: spinning roving, a bag, two skeins of sock yarn, a handmade apron… it was very nice!
That was a great package!
Meanwhile, my package was on its way to the USA when disaster struck: apparently I had made a mistake in the address, and the package could not be delivered! One number was missing, and the PostNL people could not do anything. The package was out for delivery twice, then it was taken to a depot and tagged for returning to the sender. Oh no!
I talked to the PostNL people again and they could not help me. They didn’t know anything about the depot (like an address or phone number), they couldn’t say how long it would take (but it could be up to 3 months)… basically they were no help at all. And my package was sitting in the depot, or not, it could be traveling already, it was not clear what was going on. The only thing I knew was that my package was held hostage…
In the mean time I exchanged PM’s with the swap organizer, and later also with my swappee, to see what we could do. In the end, my swappee found out where the package was being held hostage (it was still in the USA!) and she managed to have the people there reschedule a delivery, now with the correct address. She is my hero!
Today she finally got it. Coincidentally, I chose the same combination as the one I got myself! Here’s what I put together for her:
I knitted a Dalock for my swappee, as well as Amy’s scarf/A study in scarlet. I included a crossover WhoLock book, a pretty yarn (Stardust – English Gentleman) from Countess Ablaze, a mug coaster with side space for some candy or a cookie, a Friday notebook, some pretty pink silk yarn from Bart & Francis, and some sweets. This was such a cool swap!
