I’ve been working on my Delft painting a bit more. I tried to give the houses interesting stone colours. I’m not going for photo realistic, just for interesting colours. Some doors should be really dark, and I’m trying to build up those deep colours in layers. The values are not all correct anymore (I want more contrast in some places and less in others), so that’s going to be a next step. Now that the colours are more or less there, the shadows could be deeper.
This painting is a really good learning experience. I’m mixing colours to create interesting browns and greys, and I’m also trying to master working with a brush (I still find it hard to paint thin straight lines). The result is getting a bit muddy in some places, but that’s part of the process.
