Happy easter! In Dutch we have an old song:
Eén ei is geen ei
Twee ei is een half ei
Drie ei is een paasei!(One egg is no egg
Two eggs is half an egg
Three eggs is an easter egg)
It’s a really weird little song, and I’ve tried to make sense of it since when I was a child, but I really don’t know what it means. I’ve looked it up on the internet, and it’s still a bit vague. Apparently, in some regions, people gave each other three painted eggs for easter to celebrate the return of spring/life. It may be a pre-christian tradition, which has been absorbed by the christian religion, losing its original meaning.
The meaning, according to christian tradition, is: One egg is nothing, since every human needs other humans. Two eggs are half a human, the senses and the physical. Three eggs are the trinity that form a human being: body, mind, and spirit – thogether they form the easter egg, which symbolizes resurrection from death.
