During the Tour de Fleece, I have spun a big skein of Polwarth-silk yarn from two braids of fiber from DutchWoolDiva. They were not the same colourway, but quite close, and they make a lovely combination. The skein was over 900 meters, so I decided to treat myself to a warm, generously sized shawl.
I used the simple formula for creating a crescent-shaped shawl (increase 6 stitches per 2 rows, 4 on the RS and 2 on the WS) and knitted the body like that. I love stockinette stitch for handspun, because it lets the yarn speak for itself. I tried doing garter stitch for the body, but didn’t like it as much.
Then I decided to invent a nice edging to finish off the shawl in an elegant way. I decided to do a variation on the stitches I used in my Cocoberry Cowl (but without the nupps and with multiple repeats) first, and then knit on a bind-off edging sideways like in my Cabelle. I’m using a leave pattern to have a nice, flowing edging.
I’m almost halfway the bindoff now, and have 43 grams left, so I should be able to make it (I started the bindoff at 75 grams). I love the way it’s turning out! I already know what to call this shawl: Hestia, after the goddess of hearth and home. I will probably publish the pattern at some point.
