After finishing my Eb shawlette, I decided to try out this pattern design in a different way: I wanted to make it suitable for one skein of sock yarn that had a bit less meterage than the previous one (which had 420 meters/100 grams – I’m aiming at 400 meters/100 grams, with a bit to spare), so I cast on some yummy Malabrigo Sock yarn in Violeta Africana. I also wanted to see what would happen if I would close the holes that were in the first prototype, and if I would like that version better.
The knitting went quite quickly again, and somehow, even though I was using the same needle size, I used much less yarn (and my gauge was much tighter). It must be the difference in yarn, but I didn’t expect the difference to be that big! I actually had more left over than with the previous shawlette, and I didn’t even take out any rows (which I was planning to do at first). The cable bindoff of course took the most time, but I really love the look of this edging, so it’s worth it!
I’m wearing the shawlette right now, not because it’s that cold, but because the muscles in my neck and shoulder blade are hurting for some reason, and the thin merino layer adds some comfort. Am I glad that I made it! Actually, I’ve already cast on a third version, in Wollmeise this time, which will become a bit bigger (a proper shawl, I hope) and in which I will try a different way of increasing. After that version is finished I will finish up the pattern writing (which is already done for the most part) and start the testknitting process. Exciting! I also came up with a proper name for the design: Cabelle!
