I recently knitted the Twisted Cabled Companion Handbag, which is a great, simple pattern to knit a handbag that can then be felted in the washing machine. It features a nice cabled side pattern that evolves seamlessly into the shoulder strap. It’s a rather quick knit, because you knit with two strands of worsted weight yarn on 8 mm needles. The resulting bag is fluffy and quite big.
Then the magic happens in the washing machine. I just put it in at 60 degrees Celsius, added some soap, and… waited. That’s right, you can’t really do anything, the felting will take care of itself. After the washing cycle had finished, my beautiful felted bag came out! I dried it on the heating, and have been using it for a couple of days now. I also added a shiny red button to finish it off.
