Spinning

Electric Pink

Until now, I had spun a lot of chain plied yarns, which tend to turn out to be DK/sport weight. This is mainly because I like to be able to use all the yarn that I made. This time, though, I decided to finally make a 2-ply yarn on my Joy, with the help of my new Competition Lazy Kate. Also, I tried to spin a different wool type: Wensleydale, which I had never spun before. I had a braid in a shiny electric pink colour.

I divided the braid into two parts with the same weight, and started spinning away. The Wensleydale did spin quite nicely, it seems sturdy enough to make socks. It is also not soft enough for me to wear next to my neck, the fiber ends are to prickly. I finished with two thin singles and started plying loosely.

Of course I had a bit more yarn on one of the bobbins than on the other, but I came quite close for a first time. The plied yarn is a nice sock weight, 396 meters per 100 grams.
