Mannequin party

Today, I went to a very special party: a mannequin making party! Marianne from Ravelry had organized it, and there were six of us, who wanted to make a mannequin of themselves. We had found a tutorial on the internet on how to do it, so everybody brought lots of duct tape, scissors and a t-shirt.

We started by drinking lots of tea, chatting and knitting. Then the dreaded moment came: we were about to make the mannequins. It’s quite confronting to make a doll of your own body, especially if you’ve gained some weight and haven’t gotten used to it yet.

Fortunately, the people who were there were all terrific, and we started taping in groups of three: one standing and two taping. After a while we got quite handy about it, but it still took us about an hour per person. We had a great lunch in the middle, and talked a lot.

In the end of the day, everybody went home with a clone of their torso. Very handy for creating sweaters, or for sewing clothes. At home, we filled the dolls and they now stand proudly in our crafting rooms. Here’s mine:
