About three weeks ago, I could not resist any longer… I finally gave in and bought an iPad 2. Yes, me, the die-hard open source fan, with the rooted Android phones since they came out, with Ubuntu and Windows 7 on my desktop… I bought an Apple device.
I went to the MediaMarkt on a Tuesday around lunch time, and bought a luscious white wifi only iPad 2. Later I found out that at exactly the same time, my brother was doing the same. Creepy.
After using it on a daily basis since then, I have to say that the iPad is a big success for me. I use it mainly for my sheet music, with the app ForScore, but also to read knitting patterns in GoodReader. I love reading articles in the tailored-to-my-interests magazines that Zite and Flipboard are.
However, the iPad is not just good for consuming information, it works surprisingly well as a portable paint book. It is very inspiring to work with the endless possibilities of, for example, ArtRage. I also learned to play the electronic fiddle with Smule’s app, made pottery, edited photographs, and more.
I can’t stress enough how happy I am that I bought one! I keep discovering new, fabulous apps in the vast App Store, and yes, you don’t really need an iPad, I agree, but it’s so much fun to have one!

Och, ik ben jaloers! Zou ook graag een iPad willen hebben maar ja, het blijft altijd weer steken op het geld.
Ik heb er maar weinig verstand van en blijf me maar afvragen. Heb je nou wel of niet een internet abonnement nodig voor een tablet. Net zoiets als een mobiel internet abonnement? Thuis hebben we sinds kort via Ziggo een Wifi draadloos gebeuren in huis en ik neem aan dat je daar ook gebruik van kunt maken met een iPad of ander tablet?
Ik heb geen data-abonnement voor de iPad, ik heb er eentje met alleen WiFi. Daarmee kan ik thuis gewoon op het draadloze netwerk, en onderweg tap ik soms het internet van mijn telefoon af. Je kunt ook een versie met 3G (en een data-abonnement) nemen om overal altijd te kunnen internetten, maar ik heb ervoor gekozen om dat niet te doen, omdat ik ook al een data-abonnement op mijn telefoon heb.
Het is echt een aanrader, hoor, en de eerste versie van de iPad is wat goedkoper geworden nu de iPad2 er is, misschien is dat een optie voor je?
Het voordeel van een iPad is vooral het besturingssysteem dat erg goed in elkaar zit en gebruiksvriendelijk is. En de AppStore heeft al een enorm aanbod aan goede applicaties voor de tablet. Bij Android is dat nog wat meer in ontwikkeling, vandaar dat ik voor Apple ben gegaan.
