Description
Rapunzel was imprisoned in a room at the top of a tower, which could only be reached by climbing up, using her long, golden hair as a rope.
This shawlette incorporates the fairy tale. The cables represent the way Rapunzel is trapped because of a magical flower, the lace cobweb shows she has been there for a long time, and the ribbed body resembles her hair.
This shallow crescent shaped shawlette pattern contains instructions on how to divide your yarn to make sure that you have a nice, symmetrical shawlette in the end. I advise a minimum of 400 metres of yarn (usually one skein of sock yarn should be enough) to make sure the shawlette becomes long enough for practical use. The red example in the pictures uses about 400 metres.
You could also knit it with less yarn, by leaving out increases and thus making a shallower shawl with the same length. You could also make the shawl larger if you have more yarn, by adding more repeats, or you could use thicker or thinner yarn for a different effect.
For a nice big hugging shawl: be bold and use two skeins of sock yarn! The pattern provides a lot of freedom in how wide and long your shawl will be!
The pattern is charted, with accompanying written out general instructions. You will knit lace, cables, i-cord, twisted ribbing and more, but it’s all quite basic and suitable for an adventurous beginner.
